Murdi Paaki Regional Enterprise’s community radio station – Wilcannia River Radio, is a finalist in the Indigenous Radio Category of the 2015 CBAA Awards.
The annual CBAA Awards are designed to promote and recognise excellence in community broadcasting. They acknowledge the accomplishments of stations and their programs, initiatives or practices that increase their capability and improve the services offered to that station's community.
The Wilcannia River Radio Station is referred to as “the heart of the community”, or a “gift to the community”, as it is for the community, by the community.
Murdi Paaki Regional Enterprise, the organisation that participates in, and guides the radio station’s existence, is extremely proud of the Wilcannia community who have recognised the incredibly valuable communication, education, health and social improvement tool the radio station provides.
"This is the first time Wilcannia River Radio Station has been a finalist in the CBAA Awards, and it is a reflection of the outcomes Murdi Paaki focusses on in regional communities like Wilcannia to create employment pathways, promote social inclusion, community togetherness and prosperity."
The winners of the CBAA Awards will be announced on Saturday 14 November at Terrigal, NSW.
