REDI.E’s Wilcannia team has been acknowledged in the TAFE NSW awards, taking out the Gili Partnership and Industry Award alongside Murdi Paaki Regional Assembly (MPRA.)
The award was for their involvement in the Wilcannia Project, which was a shared venture between TAFE NSW, MPRA and REDI.E, aiming to build capacity for employment in Wilcannia, specifically for the upcoming Government-based projects, the Wilcannia Weir and the Baaka Cultural Centre.
The project was supported by local Elders and REDI.E Team Leader Brendon Adams, ensuring activities were culturally appropriate and inclusive, with the goal of training and skilling the community for employment.
Over seven months, the Wilcannia Project has completed three programs, successfully held graduations. Additionally, eight students completed the construction component, taking advantage of employment opportunities with Water NSW. The Project is changing Wilcannia, with the partnerships holding TAFE NSW in a positive light within Community.
The program has the complete support of the community. It is the students and community who made the program a success.
This initiative is funded/supported by the Australian Government.
