Job seekers in the Community Development Programme (CDP) in Menindee have completed a Chainsaw Operation and Maintenance course, with the assistance of REDI.E.
The course requires a high level of physical fitness, teaching basic chainsaw cross-cutting (cutting timber on ground) and maintenance skills.
The course has given participants the skills to:
- Recognise and apply workplace safety procedures and techniques
- Check and maintain a chainsaw
- Safely and efficiently operate a chainsaw
- Check and review chainsaw operation and equipment
The course went over three days. The theory component took place in REDI.E’s activity building in Menindee, while the practical component was held at the old Menindee Mission property.
Approval was sought from the Menindee Land Council and we thank the Council’s Board and CEO Noeline Ferguson for being so accommodating.
REDI.E supervisors organised and supplied a barbecue lunch for participants as well as morning tea.
It was a great three days and everyone who took part said it was good fun and they are excited to put their new skills to the test.
This initiative is funded/supported by the Australian Government.
