Local Organisations Team Up to Deliver Donated Hospital Beds to Community Members in Wilcannia

28 July, 2020

REDI.E and Wilcannia River Radio have assisted with the delivery of donated hospital beds to those in need in the community.

Wilcannia River Radio was approached by Yaama Ngunna Baaka, a group created by Uncle Bruce Shillingsworth, a well respected Aboriginal leader with a vision of initiating dialog with Elders and organising projects that assist communities.

He had sourced 15 beds from the Sydney area and they needed help getting them to Wilcannia. He also needed help assessing who in the community needed them most, such as those with mobility issues.

With help from the Australia Communities Foundation, Wilcannia River Radio and Yaama Ngunna Baaka were able to organise the logistics of having the beds delivered to Wilcannia. They then partnered with the Wilcannia Womens Safehouse, the local Health network and home care workers to ascertain who needed the beds.

The REDI.E CDP team then helped deliver the beds into the community. These beds will make their day to day lives much easier.

This initiative is funded/supported by the Australian Government.
