One of REDI.E’s star employees is celebrating a very special milestone this month! Glen Green has worked with the organisation for 10 years, and his hard work has made a huge difference for our communities.
Glen has worked in multiple locations over the years, helping REDI.E to deliver several important programs.
He began working to implement the Community Development Employment Projects (CDEP) which helps job seekers gain skills, look for and find work - and contribute to their community at the same time.
Under the CDEP, job seekers are expected to do up to 25 hours per week of work-like activities that benefit their community and increases their skill levels.
Not content with just assisting others in teaching these courses, Glen has worked to complete his own training courses, to obtain certificates in White Card and Training & Assessor. These have allowed him to become a trainer for the ‘chainsaw’ and ‘white card’ courses.
Now based in Walgett as an Activities Supervisor, Glen overseas the Work for the Dole (WFD) and Home Care programs.
WFD helps job seekers develop important skills and demonstrate to employers they are ready to start work. It is also a great way to meet new people, make contacts and get involved in their local community.
The Home Care program provides older people who want to stay at home with access to ongoing personal services, support services and clinical care that help them with their day-to-day activities.
This can be simple things that make a big difference, like mowing lawns, fixing fences and assistance with preparing meals.
Glen has achieved some fantastic things at REDI.E over the years. His career highlights include helping to build the BMX bike track
in Bourke, the Outdoor kitchens in Barwon Four Reserve and Dormitory Station in Brewarrina and more recently, the foundation of a nursery in Walgett, which has allowed the community to grow fruit trees and create plant box frames, tables and other outdoor things with wooden pallets.
But most of all, Glen says it has been the people he has met, who have made his job so rewarding.
“REDI.E is a great place to work. Over my time here I’ve met so many fantastic people with my work travels and it is great to see them and the community doing so well,” said Glen.
“One thing I'm really passionate about, is leaving a positive footprint in communities with my work. When you go back in ten years time it’s great to still see the positive impact.”
From Menindee, Murrin Bridge and Lightning Ridge, to Collie, Goodooga and many others, Glens presence has been felt by so many people across the region.
REDI.E thanks you for your exceptional work! We look forward to seeing what the future holds.
