Danilla Cooney first became a REDI.E client in January 2018, as a job seeker in the Work for the Dole program.
She had been a Carer for over nine years and suddenly found herself looking for work, just after losing her father. It was a scary and confronting time for her.
REDI.E assigned Danilla to the Community Kits Room, where she instantly felt welcome and was soon an integral part of the team.
Her activity supervisor Prue Negus took the time to get to know her and provided support and encouragement.
With the ongoing assistance from Prue and her Mentor Joy Martin, she found her confidence was growing and she began to explore new avenues of employment.
“I had always worked in manual labour positions, so I never believed I would apply for an office job,” she said.
“But with the help of Prue and Joy, I applied for the position of Mentor at REDI.E. They both helped me through the process and the requirements necessary for the application.”
“When the day came for the phone interview they offered me support and helped me prepare.”
Danilla was offered the job of Receptionist / Mentor / Centrelink at REDI.E and gladly accepted. She has now been in the role now since the 25th June.
Danilla says she is thoroughly enjoying the work.
“I can see this as not just a job, but as a Career.”
“I recommend to anyone currently doing a Work for the Dole placement, give it all you have and treat it like a stepping stone to a new future. And don’t be afraid to try something new!”
