BlueRidge Café a Great Stepping Stone for Tearne

21 April, 2017

Tearne Ryan was one of the first recruits to Dubbo’s BlueRidge Café, a social enterprise managed by Murdi Paaki Regional Enterprise Corporation. Now, Tearne has been able to use the skills learnt to successfully secure a new role as Receptionist at the Dubbo Local Aboriginal Lands Council.

As a social enterprise, the goal of BlueRidge Café is to provide employment and training opportunities to young, disadvantaged people in the community. It acts as a stepping stone to full-time sustainable employment, training both hard and soft skills, including personal presentation, resume writing and interviewing skills.

Through both her work and study, Tearne showed great skill in all areas including hospitality, barista skills, food safety and supervision. These skills have helped her move successfully through the recruitment phase at her new job, and will put her in good stead for the future, as she assists with all of the organisations administrative tasks.

BlueRidge Café manager, Max Rabbet, was recently recognised at Australia’s Commonwealth Day celebrations for his work at the café, and contribution to the economic and social wellbeing of Western NSW through the social enterprise. MPREC continues to support clients like Tearne, seeking to improve their skills through the café, and other social enterprises in the region.
